How to connect external monitor to macbook air?

I'm trying to connect an external monitor BenQ G2250 to macbook air 2014 via an adapter with VGA -> DVI -> mini Display port
mac sees the monitor, it can even pick up the resolution, and it says no signal detected on the monitor.
Can anyone tell me what can be done with this?

The point is this. Your chain of adapters doesn't work
. from the usual dvi, in which this analog signal is present. (Read about how this interface works)
This will not work. You need to look for a dvi-d-vga converter (or immediately miniDP -vga)
