How to configure mail sending on CentOS?

We need the simplest sending of registration confirmation using the mail () function.
In php.ini I registered sendmail_path. exim4 is installed on the server, but I'm not a sysadmin and I can't figure out how to set it up (I read the manuals, but they are sometimes terribly complicated, sometimes they are designed for a different version of Linux).
Can someone point me to a simple tutorial on setting up exim4 on CentOS 7 to send mail (I don't need to receive)?
