How to competently increase the volume of raid 1?

Good afternoon!
There was a need to increase the amount of raid 1 on the server. Raid 1 is assembled from 2 ssds from Intel, the controller is adaptec 8805. The OS is installed on this raid.
I think to implement everything according to the following algorithm:
in the raid controller management utility, I mark the first ssd as failed, then I take it out of the basket and, accordingly, insert a new larger ssd in its place. I'm waiting for the end of the raid rebuild. Then I repeat the same procedure with the second disc. Then I do expand logical device, and finally I expand the partition in the OS, that's all.
Or is it better to turn off the server, remove the first disk in the off state, insert a new one in its place, then after the rebuild, shut down the server again and repeat the same procedure with the second disk?
And purely for the sake of interest, but how will the controller behave if you take out both ssds, make sector-by-sector copies from them to two other ssds, and then install these new disks? Will the array fall apart? Those. before manipulating the raid, make such a backup just in case

@pumba

make a backup.
remove one drive.
install a new capacity drive instead.
after reviewing the instructions for the raid controller on how to add a new drive instead of the removed one, specify in the raid controller settings that this drive is now instead of the removed one.
wait for the end of the raid-1 array rebuild.
remove the second drive.
install a new capacity drive instead.
specify in the raid controller settings that this drive is now instead of the extracted one.
boot from any additional media (cd, flash drive), use the partition utility to master the new disk space.
