How to competently build a network for 1600 devices?
We need Internet for 1600 consumers (speeds and traffic are small).
With the obligatory ability to connect from an external network (Internet) and access each local device.
I imagined by analogy ~ 100 devices:
Internet cable --> 4 (or more) port router --> switch (unmanaged) --- cable ---> device.
How many ports are there switches? Or is there a smarter solution than the above method.

Yes Yes! And as soon as you carry out work on this mega-switch (the port will burn, update the firmware ...) all 1600 devices will remain without communication) Especially an unmanaged switch)
Start answering questions to yourself:
1) on what area will the devices be located? So we will determine which ports and how many are needed according to the transmission medium (copper or optics? Or maybe sealing is also needed if there are few fibers?)
2) What ports are on the devices? So we will determine whether 100M or 1GE is needed and how many
ports
3) If, nevertheless, the area of \u200b\u200bthe location of devices is large enough (and I am almost sure of this), which of them will stand next to which? So we find out how much cable can be saved.
4) Is it possible to somehow divide them into groups? Geographically, administratively? So we can beat them into the desired networks-subnets.
5) What addresses will they have? Still, how much traffic and what will it be on these pieces of iron? So we can determine the specifications for the router and switch(s)
6) Standard question - what level of availability is required? The need for reserves at each site will depend on this.
7) Access to each device - how? What protocol? through a terminal server?
8) Well, yes, it was necessary to start with how much money do you have?
Here you answer these questions, the next portion will be more complicated
. And so the question looks like this: how to build an apartment building with 1600 apartments? Is it the same as the hut?
