How to choose the frequency of RAM for the processor and motherboard?
Hello, I have a question...
I ordered ddr4 2x8gb(16gb) 2666 mhz cl16 RAM for my motherboard on a b360m chipset, with support for 2666 mhz RAM, but I didn't take into account that my intel i3-8100 processor supports the maximum frequency only 2400 mhz. Please tell me how this will affect performance and whether it is generally possible to insert RAM with a frequency higher than the processor supports. Thanks in advance for your reply! :)

Any combination is possible, just one of the components will not work at full capacity.
Sometimes they do it on purpose, with a reserve for a future upgrade.
I do so. First I look at the processor, at what frequency it can use the memory. Then I look at the motherboard to see if it supports this processor. And then the memory.
Nurse can drive percent and / or memory, this should also be taken into account, depending on your desires. And you can find on the Internet someone's experience with your hardware, usually someone has already assembled a computer with the same configuration.
Since the processor does not have the letter K in the index, as well as the motherboard is not based on the Z chipset, it will not work to set the memory frequency higher than specified in the processor characteristics and it will be 2400 MT / s.
