How to check the "hard" health of an external hard drive?

I'm new to this, if you help me figure it out, you won't get a price. I will try to provide all information.
There are several questions regarding the external screw, which is slowly "degrading":
1. Is it normal if there are broken sectors on the HDD? In my case, there is 1 orange that will "fail" soon.
2. What to do with this orange sector (screenshots will be)? Can it be restored or removed?
3. How to check the hard drive health - I checked SMART, did I do it right (there will be screenshots)? Because an external screw will be used under mac, more precisely, a backup of its OS and other information.
4. How risky is it to use such a screw for backups?

You do not have bad sectors (if you had, then - no, not normal). That orange will soon fail is not a fact. It may come out, or it may live for another 5 years, and then the entire disk will die.
Fact is that:
  • Number of remapped sectors = 0
  • Attempts to remap sectors = 0
  • Candidates for reassignment = 0

And do not forget that your disk uses SMR technology, when overwriting data, it can suddenly turn "orange" anywhere, this does not mean a malfunction, it's just bad technology. It will do for backups.

Who said that?

What's wrong with him?
3. How to check the hard drive health - I checked SMART, did I do it right (there will be screenshots)?

Victoria, and you already did.

There are several screws used for backups, and don't forget to check them.

I can be wrong, but it is more informative to look at the graph after the run for "recording", and not for "reading".

If you have an external drive, then it is difficult to focus on a sector with a three-second reading - the USB bridge can introduce its own distortions. Still, it is more correct to look at such parameters with a direct connection.
Judging by SMART (the Russian names for SMART attributes look unusual), the disk thinks that it is in order so far.

How to check the "hard" health of an external hard drive?

If you have doubts and only backups are stored on the disk (i.e. you still have a copy), you can download R.tester and run a full write test first, and then a full read test (Read, not Verify). This will be the best test you can do yourself.
Please note that the write test overwrites the data irrevocably, double-check that there is a copy of the information from the disk.
