How to change the CSS of the template correctly?

Good afternoon, dear connoisseurs. The question is simple, for those who know. I have a Joomla site with a template. The template has a template.css file that I need to edit. I edit, save, clear the cache in the admin panel, but the file changes back to the standard one, all my changes disappear. Changing the permissions on the file does not help, it still changes it to the original. How to be?

Good day!
You need to create a file along the path templates/template_name/css/custom.css and put your styles in it, in 95 percent of cases it will connect and everything will be fine, this is the standard functionality of joomla.
If it didn’t work, you can specify the name of your template or a link to the site in the comment.

In the template settings, there is usually a Custom CSS field, and there you need to override the styles, otherwise it will be overwritten.
If this field is missing, then you will have to include an additional css file and write after each line !important; to override the style of the original template.
