How to change ANDROID_ID in Android SDK Emulator under Mac?

By default, the ID 000000000000000 is embedded in the emulator for all devices that I create emulators for.
I need to change this ID. On Stackoverflow, it is advised to either recompile the emulator or “hack” it through a HEX editor.
Is there a more human way?
