Well, I can tell, based on my knowledge.
It takes something like Yandex.Metrics and looks at clicks, transitions and other factors where people go, what they choose, where they click, and so on. Find out who your audience is, what browsers they use, and so on.

You can also look for similar things. Somewhere I saw on Habré someone dismantled his site by bones. Where, who and why was bad.
still
Consider all the same to you the profitability of the site from the increase in visitors and other things. There is nothing ready. by and large, this "average temperature in the hospital" will be all the same.

"based on specific numbers" and redesign - I do not really associate. You can definitely calculate how much you will spend on the project - but how much profit will you get from the project? well, except perhaps in conditional potential "people" who "reached" the desired page after the redesign. Then you can try to count the "reached people" in sales (for this you have statistics from the site) -\u003e money -\u003e profit. But do you understand that the real effect of the redesign can be very different from the expected one?

I am not an expert in this, but I will assume that you need to make a test group (as large Internet companies do) and include a new design for them, then in the metric (google or yandex) analyze the indicators for the old and new design - time for site, clicks, number of visitors/orders, average order amount and others. Further, if you see that the new design is more indicative, there are more orders, the average check is larger, and the like, the average increase in profitability per month is calculated. Knowing the amount of investment and the average increase in profitability, we calculate the payback. And then I think you will find a use for these numbers :)

Of course, you can calculate, for example, the return on the site before the redesign, and after the redesign, and then correlate it with the costs of the redesign and find out the profitability of the redesign.
but to be honest, this is an empty metric, because you still won’t return the redesign costs, but the metric will simply talk about something that you can no longer influence.
Just do what kind of fashion to evaluate the profitability of individual components of the project? ->
the product consists of many details that only together give some kind of result, and each of them individually does not give anything.
without proper design you will not get a competitive product, if you want to get a share in a competitive market do good design, good service, quality marketing, etc.
