How to become a project leader/manager?

I work as the head of the sales department in the telecom industry. I don’t see my further development specifically in sales, the sphere of project management in the field of IT is more interesting, because. it combines the need for both management and communication skills, which is precisely my strength.
So, having studied the job market, I came across the fact that everyone is primarily interested in experience (which is understandable). So, maybe there is someone who started with similar introductory ones? What did you start with?
You can not raise the issue of studying project management methodologies, this is a separate issue. It is clear that all of them should be studied.

Management, communications, leadership, psychology, and all these things are good. But in order to be the head of the development department of something high-tech or software, you must definitely understand the essence of these processes. And therefore - you need to code, and design, and develop, and wrestle with competitors, and study the market, and comprehend the theory of all this.
It doesn't hurt to even know the full specifics of the project - how the application architecture is implemented, multitasking, what algorithms you use and why. Just many of these things, you, as a leader, will have to determine - to direct the development team in the right direction.

How many times have they told the world ... First - to understand what the "subordinates" are doing, then - to manage.

Started from the bottom. First I designed, then it became interesting to typeset what I designed, then coding, then designing, then analytics, and all this at a basic level. Then he became an analyst, and in 4 months he took on a small project with good merit. and so it grew like that to large projects a year.

First, you need to work as a developer in order to understand the specifics, and then manage it. Or aim for the highest level, but this is no longer a project manager.

To get started, you need practice. Start with a regular content manager to deal with the questions "What is a project, how does it work", then you will be able to understand what is needed for the development of this project.
After that, you can read a lot of literature on project management, learn popular CRM project management systems.

It is necessary to go to a small boss in a small company, because large companies usually raise bosses from the bottom. In general, your path will run through small and medium-sized companies. In large such positions are occupied by specialists with experience. But sometimes you can jump from small ones into large ones. already have experience. Still deciding on a project. You can do only 1 project but loud and then it will open the door to become a manager in many companies.

"In order to get a job, you need experience. In order to get experience, you need a job." Ways to break this vicious circle do not depend on the industry: volunteering, internships, working in small companies for little money. Reinforce your experience by studying someone else's. As you gain experience - raise the bar of complexity and payment.

Before that, you should have asked yourself another question - why do I want to be the leader, and even the project? but with such an approach a good manager!!! not to become projects.
Read smart books, seminars. Deploy and implement the project at your workplace. And look at the feedback.
