How to avoid problems with USB devices?

While working in Windows, I learned the golden rule - after carrying the system unit, stick a bunch of USB peripheral cables strictly into the slots in which they were before connecting. Otherwise, problems with falling off mice and reinstalling keyboards cannot be avoided. But a new misfortune appeared: when connecting the splitter, the same glitches began to appear, devices "fall off", drivers were reinstalled.
What could be the reason for this behaviour? And are Linux operating systems prone to the same problems?

HZ, never bothered with sticking into the same slots - no problem.

Some crap. The only similar problem was in Windows 2000 at our institute - the device was installed strictly in the port into which it was plugged (when plugged into another, it tried to install, but could not be installed without administrator rights)
