How to assign a domain to a local IP?

Hey! There is a virtual machine with CentOs. It spins the site for the term paper. It is necessary to put an SSL certificate, but it refuses to be put on IP and gives the following error:

Requested name 10.2.1.13 is an IP address. The Let's Encrypt certificate authority will not issue certificates for a bare IP address.

Therefore, you need to assign some kind of domain. How to do it?

PS: the server will not look outside! Therefore, is it possible to do without buying a domain?

You can even do without LE :) Issue a self-signed certificate for any desired name, register a couple of IP-names in the local DNS or hosts files of all the necessary machines and voila.

On the webserver host, add the domain if needed and supply a self-signed certificate.

Issue a self-signed certificate.
LetsEncrypt needs a valid domain - if you have one, issue a certificate and transfer it to a local server, adding the domain name to hosts or somewhere else.
