How to add custom monitor resolution in Ubuntu?

Hello. The goal is to set the screen resolution to 1280x1024 as it was on Windows. The fact is that after installing the proprietary Nvidia driver, the resolution I need is not determined. So I tried to add it with

cvt
xrandr --newmode
xrandr --addmode

So at the --addmode stage, the BadMatch error is spit out.
I tried to manually set the resolution I need through the Nvidia panel. The ViewPortIn and Panning fields have been changed to the required ones, but ViewPortOut cannot be changed, as a result - image zoom and blurry text / icons and everything else.
I also tried to add my resolution as a separate section in the Screen section of the xorg.conf file, "EDID" "False" also tried
. In general, several hours of googling and reading English-language forums did not give any results.
The monitor is connected via a DVI adapter cable to a VGA cable, I tried to remove the adapter and connect the cable to the VGA slot on the system unit, but the monitor was cut off, instead of a blue light, a red one on it lit up. What's strange .. both vidyuha and monitors support VGA
Maybe you can offer something else?
