How to access external image using javascript in adobe acrobat pro?

I'm trying to track the opening of a PDF, and I need to somehow refer to an external picture.
So far, all I've come across is inserting js on an event in a document through adobe acrobat, but I can't compose the function correctly.

Is there any possibility of accessing an external image from a pdf in principle?
Is there a way to do this without the help of js?
