How to access caching ssd
Hello colleagues!
I own a Fujitsu S782 laptop (http://www.fujitsu.com/ru/products/computing/pc/notebooks-tablets/advanced/lifebook-s782/index.html). According to those characteristics, in addition to the main HDD (which I have already replaced with an SSD), there is another one (excerpt from the site):
mSATA, 32 GB, Cache memory based on a solid state drive for implementing IRST and Express Cache technologies
This drive is not detected in the BIOS, however the drives are listed like this:
* DRIVE0
* DRIVE2
* DRIVE3
* DRIVE4 It looks like DRIVE1
is missing
When I install ubuntu, this drive is determined (sdb), but the question is: how to specify in the BIOS to start from it? I want to use this media as "/" and the second SSD as "home".

To be honest, I don’t know how to specify in the BIOS.
but nothing prevents you from implementing your scheme. put grub on the disk that you see, make a /boot partition on it and pass the parameters to the kernel that the root is on sdb.
Although I would not put the entire root on 32Gb. / var I would also take out on a larger disk.
in the case of ubuntu, all this can be done from its installer.
The main thing is at the end of the installation, when it asks you “where to put the bootloader” - specify the correct disk (in your case, apparently sda)
PS the main thing is that these caching functions are not hard-coded at the BIOS level, in this case the machine will not care what and as you noted, it will write a cache to this disk ... take a closer look at the BIOS settings for this moment.

following the logic - after poking the cable, your new ssd will become invisible.
I think that a skeleton was specially made in the BIOS so that "ordinary" users would not be able to put the system on a disk that is positioned as a cache by the manufacturer.
PS By the way, yes. You can only put the bootloader on a new disk. and place the entire system with root and boot on this built-in.
but still 32 gigabytes for the whole system with logs and blackjack is pretty damn small :)
