How promising is WebGL technology?

Is the technology developing or has something more effective or more promising already come to replace it?
Are there many smart specialists with WebGL skills on the market? How wide is the market? Is there a demand? Or does it all end with games and architectural bureaus?
How are things in this regard specifically in the CIS, Europe, and the USA?
Who knows - tell me, please.
Working with 3D is interesting, so I think whether it is worth paying attention to technology or not.

The application is very wide. There is a demand, but there are not so many specialists.
Applications: wow sites, vr sites, browser games. He is very fast with straight arms.
There are not so many learning resources, it is better to try to understand the basics, work with shaders (an excellent article for starting https://habr.com/en/post/420847/ ) and switch to three.js

My colleagues are writing a system for visualizing events in the detectors of the NICA collider in Kotlin, for the web version (for remote attendants) three.js is used (via KotlinJS).

I'm subscribed to the front-end and JavaScript newsletters. I would not say that I often meet something there on WebGL. In general, rendering in the browser, as for me, is a rather specific topic for the same specific tasks, such as photo editors, augmented-reality, and so on. I do not see a wide application of this technology.

After all, WebGL is more about games. Moreover, Unity WebGL dominates in this area. According to the analytics available to me, I can say that if in 2016 the number of WebGL games in relation to all online games was 11%, then as of 2019 it is already 39.8%. The latest developments in the field of WebGL games can be found, for example, here .
