How not to kill screw with torrents too fast (Ubuntu)?
I, so to speak, on duty, need to constantly download and distribute a large number (more than a thousand) small (~ 200mb each) files via torrent.
A separate large-capacity screw (Western Digital 1.5Tb) is allotted for this. There is the latest Ubuntu, the ext4 file system is on the screw, rtorrent is involved in the download / distribution.
The thing is - in about a year and a half I have already replaced 2 screws, they just die in about six months or a year. I asked a question on the Ubuntu forum, to which I was advised to add “commit = 60” in fstab, which should extend the life of the screw.
I also wanted to ask here, are there any other ways to extend such a difficult life to the screw?

First, reformat to ext2 or another filesystem without logging - logging torrent activity is pointless. Second, yes, changing the timing of commits does make sense. It is worth, however, to check the settings of AAM and the transition to inactivity - suddenly he will have time to park.
I usually prescribe defaults, noatime, noexec (well, only /var and /noexec should not be written).
But in general, somehow you are not lucky with the disks. I have a 320GB wd dedicated to torrents, 24x7x365 has been working for 4 years, so far everything is fine.
In the torrent client, set the space reservation, you can also disable the journal for ext4, or transfer it to another mode. I have five screws, the oldest one is four years old, and all are alive. I download a lot of torrents, I distribute up to 7tb per month.
They return the money for the screws, so it's easier to kill and take a new one, bigger and faster.
Question: Why distribute these files? For the rating? Is this rating necessary? I download a bunch of everything from torrents, while I have it in the distribution until I sort out the folder (usually 5 days), and a couple of my own distributions (open source). The rating is consistently low, but it does not prevent me from downloading everything I need.
