How much SSD in macbook pro 2020 is enough for a comfortable life?

I want to buy 512GB, does it make sense to overpay for 1TB? The difference is decent, but is it necessary ... I don’t particularly keep photos. I am engaged in programming and surfing the Internet.

512GB, 1TB is not "memory", but the amount of storage.
Memory refers to RAM.
Nobody can tell you how much space you need. Look at the current computer, how much space your programs and data take up, estimate approximately how much they will grow during the use of the laptop. Please note that it is desirable to have a reserve of free space on the SSD (its presence simplifies the work of the controller), if it is hammered to the eyeballs, the speed of work can significantly decrease, and the OS does not like this either. It is desirable to have at least 15% free, but this is a ceiling figure, and for a larger disk it makes sense to reduce it.
Make your choice based on this.

Do you know about Hofstadter's law?

More time will always be spent on work than planned, even if Hofstadter's law is taken into account.

And so, with disks also.

I have 256 on the MB Air M1. On the previous firmware 256 on Intel, it was always free about 100, I decided not to take too much.
Development for iOS, surfing, everyday life (I watch videos online, I don’t play games)

I have half of the 512 gig stably free.
True, I regularly throw off any heavy crap (such as the Flibusta archive or films) on an external terabyte wine.
