How much is BEM necessary?

Good day. Sometimes I work as a freelancer (or rather, I try to earn extra money). I heard about BEM technology many times. I read about it, but as I understand it, it does not speed up layout, but makes it possible to "painlessly" use blocks in other projects. How much does this technology need a simple freelancer?

BEM is redundant. I am using SMACSS. And happy. IMHO.

There is no doubt that a naming system is needed. If you don't have your own then try bam. After trying to use it, you will most likely develop something of your own that will be more convenient for you.
