How many cores to give to a virtual machine?

Good afternoon! On the server there is a 4-core server processor, xeon. How many virtual processors to give to the virtual machine on which sql and database?
BD=40GB.
I read one article that 4 physical cores are 8 virtual ones. As a hyper-v server 2012r2 hypervisor.
Is it possible to give 7 cores or 6, and leave 1-2 under hyper-v? Only one virtual machine is planned on the server.

If you have nothing but SQL - give all the cores to it.
What you read about doubling is hyper trading and has nothing to do with the virtual machine.
