How is traffic counted in Amazon EC2?

Who can advise on traffic counting on Amazon EC2?
There is an instance, on it there is a certain script that takes data from api with a certain frequency. Actually, the question is, how is this traffic counted?
For example, I sent a request (let it be 20KB), I received some json in response (let it be 1 Mb of information). What will go into traffic accounting and what will you have to pay for?

@opium

if you send data to some external api, then everything will go into traffic, both incoming and outgoing, and you will need to pay for everything.
Amazon doesn’t care what you put api, json or something else in this traffic, the main thing here is to pay.
