How insecure is an open hotspot?

Good day, dear users)

Please tell me how unsafe it is to have an open Wi-Fi network (without a password)?
What can an attacker do by connecting to my router (sample scenario)? How to secure your home network?

Thanks in advance.

What an attacker can do
write a letter about a terrorist attack, distribute CP, create a torus output node, and so on for which good guys will come to you
How to secure your home network?
Don't make "open wi-fi network (no password)"

What can an attacker do by connecting to my router (sample scenario)?

- post a photo of Aloizych/Himmler/Vlasov on the site of the Immortal Regiment
- send letters with links to the CPU
- write to the FSB, the prosecutor's office, the police about the "supposedly" mined buildings
- slander some famous person
- register on the website of the fid..sov
.. well ,
in a word, do everything for which people use "tor through vpn through tor through vpn" - and they are still found. Then, of course, they will figure it out, but you can have time to lie down with your face on the floor :)
How to secure your home network?

- change ssid
- change the admin password (and if possible - and login)
- set the WPA2 key, and set it to 20-25 characters
- enable MAC control
