How to remove the horizontal stick in the letter "A" in Illustrator?

ps I need help, I've been poking around for about forty minutes, converted the text to curves and ungrouped it, but I can't select the stick.

After converting to a vector, you can cut the horizontal element in two and then remove the extra nodes with the curve editing tool. I think there are only 8.
