How does the verification process work on oDesk and Elance?

Please tell me what the verification process looks like on the oDesk and Elance exchanges. Is it possible to work on these exchanges without verification?
And, the main question is how to pass verification if you rent an apartment, like, as I heard, you need an extract with payment for an apartment on oDesk?

You can work without verification, but the number of "bids" will be limited and there will be another reason for the client to distrust you.
You can just show a personal document (for example, a passport), paying for an apartment is if you don’t want to show your passport :)
