To place a special character, as seen from the interface: Insert a special character - Hyphens and dashes - Discretionary hyphen
It puts a discretionary (soft) hyphen - a designation of a place in a word where you can put a hyphen, and the character itself is not displayed, and if the word is wrapped to the next line, then a hyphen appears in its place.
