How does save machine state work in virtual machines?
Good afternoon.
When we click on the save machine state button in Virtual Box, does it save only the contents of RAM, or the entire state of the machine at the moment?

Your system hangs in a virtual hard drive (physically located in a file on a real disk),
therefore, changes on the hard drive in the virtual machine are stored in that file, what was in the RAM is saved to another file, or, as in a real system, a dump is made to the hard drive (again same to virtual fs in file on real hard)
