How does Google rank original images in Google Images?

For 2-3 months, according to low-frequency requests, original photos of size 1036/691 reached the TOP.
I want to re-upload photos to a smaller size 768/512 to reduce weight and optimize mobile search results.
Question:
Google ranks original images from largest to smallest i.e. in the TOP there will be an image 1200/800 than 700/450?

it’s best to give different sizes for different clients (mobile and desktop) + also webp when possible,
but it ranks yes - the typical size for today is higher than the rest
of your 1036 on the verge of the typical one, 768 will fly out of it if there is something to replace from competitors

To the question of AMP, you need to close it in robots for Yandex, since he does not see it. Instead, Yandex has an alternative to Turbo pages (works via RSS)
Yes, as far as I know, photo sizes are taken into account in ranking. But, as previously noted, it is necessary not to crop the size of the photo, but to compress it. You can use a program, you can use an online service like tinypng.com And it's better to set your own image sizes for different device sizes so that there are no "scaled" images.
An optimized site for pagespeed, the presence of amp, ssl has a positive effect on SEO.
As for WebP, as far as I know, not all browsers support this format. However, on the VI it is possible to convert all images to webp + caching.
Plugin capable of caching webp - Cache Enabler
