How does ESXi handle processor changes?

The server has ESXi 6.7, Xeon E3-1220 V6 processor. I want to replace with Xeon E3-1280 v6. Question: will the hypervisor have a kernel panic or something similar and will the virtual machines fall off?

Well, on the go, you are unlikely to be able to replace the processor, and turned off virtual machines will not care. After turning it on, it will simply begin to live in a new reality with a new process. But if you have hosts with different processors in your cluster (especially different generations), then yes, there can be adventures.

So that virtual machines do not fall off, they need to be migrated to another server, and this one should be turned off and the processor replaced.
First check that the hardware is compatible with the installed version of ESXi.

I changed a year ago 6700 to 7700K, ESXi 6.5, VM deb like and windows 10, there were no problems anywhere.
