How does a device connect to Wi-Fi in the Internet of Things (IOT) concept?

Suppose there is a certain device in the house that needs to be connected to the network (via Wi-Fi). The device does not have a screen. How does it get into the network without authorization (how to carry out this authorization)?
Do you need an alternative channel, for example, bluetooth, to connect first to a smartphone, and then, through it, to the network itself?

Everything is easier. The device is initially an access point with its own web interface, and then the process of configuring this device takes place even from a smartphone. There and ask your AP and key. It is necessary to provide only a reset button to the factory settings.

The options are (all this IMHO).
1. The device will connect to any random open network.
2. The device will connect to an open network with a specific SSID.
3. The device will connect to a specific network with specific security settings.
4. The device will wait for configuration via a different communication channel (for example, via Bt or some kind of Data cable).
How this will be implemented in a particular device, I can’t say until I twisted them in my hands. But in the docks for wireless light bulbs, I've seen the first, third, or fourth behavior.
