How do WIFI access protection services work?

We connect to WIFI, we are redirected to a site where we have to watch ads / enter a code / etc .. The next time we surf, we will no longer be redirected to this page, how is this implemented? The user always goes to this site, and he, depending on the rights, redirects us to the desired page?
