How do the Layer > Layer Mask > Reveal All and Reveal Selection options work in Adobe Photoshop CC 2017?

So I hid the mask, say, on Hide Selection , and now I want to show its inner part on Reveal Selection , and such an item is simply not available. How to understand what these options are for?
