How do I set a sender avatar in Gmail?

I want to make it so that the recipient of my letter on the Gmail client in android shows the avatar that I want.
I tried to install a picture in the Gmail profile, after 2 days the avatar began to be displayed in the web version, but in android it still shows the first letter of the login. Is this a bug or is it intended?
