How do I authorize requests from PayPal?

I'm using PayPal-PHP-SDK, I don't understand how to authorize requests from PayPal. In the example from the doc:

a request comes from PP, there is a token (OAuth2) but it is not used in the example code. Of course, you can save it in the database in advance and check it when asked, but I'm not sure that this is correct. What is the best way to proceed in this case?
