I would like to write a client-server application based on mtproto, is this possible? How can I do that? If not, what are the analogues of the protocols (except https)?

The Durovs wrote the tdlib library https://github.com/tdlib/td which implements all the telegram functionality. Using it, you can write your own chat applications.
By the way, some banks use it for corporate applications.
