How are things going with front-end development?

Greetings!
In the last six months, I have been actively studying layout, so far as a hobby. In the future, I plan to switch to Front-end development in general.
I would like to know how promising this direction is, what kind of competition, how things are in freelancing and how hard it is to get into a decent studio. I looked through a lot of vacancies, in most cases they require 3-6 years of experience in this field, for Junior positions 1-3 years, but even those are few. From all this, the question arises - where to get this experience? I read about this problem on many forums, it all comes down to the fact that you need to collect a portfolio, but it’s better to create your own project, and then try to get a job as a Junior developer. Is it true? Or will the employer look specifically at the length of service in the work book? How long does it take to get stable income? Now I'm studying in college at the Faculty of Applied Computer Science, will there be any benefit from this? Not in terms of knowledge, of course, I understand that the education system does not train good specialists, students often finish their studies themselves. I mean in terms of competitiveness.
I would also like to know how much, on average, you can earn on freelancing by typesetting small projects, landing pages.
Or is it better to choose another direction? It's just that I'm still 16 and while I have time to learn something new.

The competition has intensified - everyone is sitting at home and studying the web.
You need to start with a web tester position, or something where the main tools will most likely be google dev tools and postman. The requirements for such a position are something like a big action per minute in StarCraft, but they only give money for a mivina. A
normal portfolio sitting alone at home, coming up with projects from the bulldozer can only be done by a very big chance.
