How are multilingual sites made?

Interested in a common understanding.
What plugins are used? How does working with content in the admin panel look like? Are duplicates of all content created and indicated to them in which language to display them, or when editing a material / page, can all language versions be edited?
In general, I want to know how this is already implemented in ready-made solutions for Joomla and WordPress.

@KurtsKhalia

for example, I use the Falang component in joomla.
This extension provides a full translation of the site's content into different languages. All components and modules installed on the site are also subject to translation.

For WP, I used only one plugin - qTranslate X .
Does not create copies, while editing, you can switch between languages.
I can be wrong, but, in my opinion, Joomla has multilingualism right out of the box.

I make separate sites for language versions either nested site.com/en or en.site.com subdomain
+ Everything is clean in the admin panel, there is no duplicate content
+ Ability to change media content in different languages. For example, banners/sliders
+ If custom fields are used, God himself ordered
+ The ability to promote different language versions separately
+ Independent databases, + karma for security
- Duplicate media content

Joomla has had multilingualism out of the box for many years. Most of the components already support multilingualism. The setting is well described in this article: https://cmscafe.ru/raznoe/217-sozdanie-mnogoyazych...

One of the best solutions for WP is the WPML plugin, I have been using it for a long time on many sites.
Joomla out of the box is multilingual.

The multilingual plugin can help you target a global audience without any hassle. I recently read an article where you can find various multilingual plugins for WordPress sites. https://www.elegantthemes.com/blog/resources/the-b...

WPML. qTranslateX is architecturally unsuitable, loads the volume of several language versions into the browser, and displays one.
