How and with what can you collect information about the network, make a map?

Now the situation is as follows, I have several groups of PCs under supervision. Each group has different operating systems, different providers, and other differences. For convenience, I’m going to at least connect all PCs using a VPN on some dedicated server so that you can legally use VNC, instead of TeamViewer and Ammy paid for commerce, which these VPNs create on their own.
Having combined the PCs into a single network, it is reasonable to believe that I would like to create a single active network map. On Windows, this could be Total Network Monitor, but I didn’t find its nix version, and installing wine on all machines is far from the most beautiful way out, as it seems at this stage.
I would like to know what programs you use, what they can do? How beautiful and more convenient it is to organize monitoring of completely different separate networks.

@zionkv

This is the subject of the ancient holivar nagios vs zabix,
IMHO, zabbix is more functional and certainly easier and more logical to set up for a beginner

@3vi1_0n3

I would suggest nagios.
That's why:
1) There are clients for different operating systems
2) Installing the client is not required, you can monitor pings on the port via TCP or UDP, for example.
3) It is possible to create a network map by coordinates, although this will take some time.
4) Notification groups, for each object or group of monitoring objects, you can define a notification group
5) Grouping of monitoring objects, of course.
6) A huge number of plugins. Both for monitoring various parameters of operating systems and for network equipment, for example, Cisco
7) Free, no licenses are required. Some are relevant.
8) There is a plugin for firefox that can reflect problematic machines in real time.
