Home computer as a virtual machine?

I really like virtual machines - a very convenient snapshot mechanism, you don’t need to rack your brains on how to install 1 more OS, having 1 powerful computer you can make 2-3 separate ones spinning on 1 piece of hardware.
While I'm working under Win7 and vmware virtual machine with Ubuntu is spinning in the background + sometimes I run Win XP and something on Linux.
I keep Windows because from time to time I cut myself into toys.

Tell me, is there some way to do it smartly so that all operating systems in the system are virtual and so that when working in Windows there are no brakes and you can play the same way as on a non-virtual system.

You have an interesting task))
I would try to solve it using Hyper-v 2008 R2 sp1+RemoteFX

Well, if the host is windows, then it will be possible to play on it;) In general, today an article about forwarding a video card slipped through, I think we need to talk to the author .

I do not advise leaving only the hypervisor on the host. Too many different inconveniences can arise, and administration will become much more complicated. It is better to install a full-fledged OS with a GUI, at least in a minimal configuration.
I have Windows 2008 Server R2 + Hyper-V installed as a host OS, and virtual "to taste". The host has only the necessary minimum of software, and all application programs are packed into virtual machines - one for server software, the second for development, the third for testing, etc.
Toys can be played either on the host, or, as indicated above, using RemoteFX. But in the case of RemoteFX, the video card really needs to be powerful: in the case of NVidia, either top-end GeForce or Quadro-class cards.

The easiest way is multi-boot. Install all the necessary OSes, and install Linux last, so that you can specify through GRUB where to boot.
With virtualization, the catch is that guests lose physical access to devices. The underlying problem is vidyuha. In toys because of it you will not be cut. Yes, even the UI in modern systems will slow down, since hardware acceleration is widely used.
Yes, there is Remote-FX, but you also need hardware with its support. And the cost will not please him.
