Hang while copying server 2016 files. Why?
When copying files from a hard drive to another, copying hangs.
Does not depend on volume.
The drive I'm copying to is a virtual expandable drive (1TB out of 5TB). Could this be the problem? Or a hardware problem?

in hardware - it is quite possible that troubles cause long timeouts. but the system usually starts semaphoring that the disk is dying. if the sectors still work out from many attempts, then it can be something like you describe. The virtual disk has nothing to do with it, it's just a file. if the physical hard drives are different, the problem can be on any - both on the source and on the receiver,
but in general you need to start with the analysis of system logs. in 99% of them, you can derive an accurate diagnosis
ps - the resource monitor can also immediately show the presence of queues for disk operations on all physical and logical disks, as well as processes and files in the
screen processing (columns in all sections are clickable, you can sort by them)
