Gentoo & FreeBSD = Internet browsing?

Hello,
I was interviewing for one of the Linux admin positions. They said, they say, raise two virtual machines (GENTOO and FREEBSD) and make sure that they go to the Internet through each other.
I did not quite understand and was afraid to ask. Do I need to raise on each? Gateway? NAT? proxy? Set up static (dynamic?) routes? How else can you implement this to surprise the dude at the next interview as much as possible?

By assignment, I suppose, Gentoo is a working machine, FreeBSD is a gateway to the Internet (not vice versa). And the whole task. How do you do it and do it. The more correct, the better.
It is possible so to diversify: to lift pieces 4 virtualka with a fryakha, OSPF and CARP between them. On the 1st and 4th - workstations must be on different subnets, see each other. Just go to the Internet through one of the Fryakh.
Once upon a time, I did such a task for self-education a long time ago ... It was interesting)
