Geek paranoia: why is a photo with a passport in hand dangerous?

Do you take photos of your data, selfies with your passport in your hands, etc. when services ask for it? For example, car sharing, bookmakers, etc.?
I believe that in Russia such data often flows to intruders, where it is used to apply for loans, restore access, and so on. Do you agree with this?

I do not make or use services that require such "verification".
It is especially malicious when it is not even asked to be downloaded on the site, but is used offline to "verify the client", for example, couriers of Otkritie banks, TKS and others, photographing the client with a passport, the passport separately and the client separately on their smartphone. This is even worse than "provide a selfie with a passport." This is all of itself a certified means of cryptographic protection of personal data, mln. Smartphone Prestige. Ugh!

in VKontakte, you quickly write to financial groups "I give small loans", to each respondent you ask for a photo with a passport,
then ask for Skype - you note how many photos you can immediately refuse
to use - better for women - soar on any joint purchases for prepayment, etc. etc.
in short -
serious services confirm the necessary thing with Skype or even special chats, with video, of course

No.

I do not have such data. But this does not matter, because the practice itself is malicious, and should not be encouraged.

In some cases, a photo with a passport can serve as an online confirmation of your identity when concluding an online contract. In general, this is no more dangerous than just a copy of your passport, which is made by almost everyone with whom you enter into an agreement: banks, hotels, classic car sharing, etc.
I was photographed like this for the T online bank (when they brought me a bank card) and for per-minute carsharing (when I was too lazy to go to them myself). In both cases, there was no risk, but there was a significant time saving. But an important clarification: every time, in addition to my passport, I had a piece of paper in my hands, for whom I was doing this - so that this photo, even in the event of a leak, could not be used for other purposes (for example, obtaining a loan).

Cover your passport number if you don't want trouble.
Yes, and the face is not very good to shine.

And when the watchman asks you for an "identity document" and rewrites it in his journal, or when your passport is scanned in a modern business center to give you a pass - are you not afraid?

I almost never take selfies :) Neither with a passport, nor without a passport. Separately, I scanned my passport three times over the past N years - in Tinkoff after changing my residence permit, in RUTSENTR and in a paid dating site (the last one - the scan was of very low quality, only to make out the last name and in the photo you could see the face and with the subdivision code smeared ).
Just like everywhere else. Russia is no better or worse in this respect.
