Gallery in Wordpress - can a simple HTML and JS plugin solution be used?

Let's say there is a simple site (one-page, nothing serious in terms of the type of applications for finishing the functionality), where you need to implement the functionality of the gallery, that is, just a landing section with a gallery of photos.
Question: is it possible, for example, to use this JS plugin for this task (for example, make your own type of post like "Photo for the gallery" - and add data like a picture, description there when entering a new photo)? Or do you still need to use a WordPress plugin? That is, is there any significant difference between these approaches?
