For normal DNS operation on a Windows server, you need to allocate a static ip, how?

Hello, the type of network connection is as follows: the provider's twisted pair is inserted into the WAN port of the router, which distributes dhcp addresses to all computers on the network. I want to set up a server, in connection with this, there are two questions, how to allocate a static ip-address, and is it necessary to raise dhcp on the server if the dhcp of the router is already distributing ip?

how to allocate a static ip address
There are several options.
  • In the router, in the DHCP settings, there are address lease settings. Match the MAC address of the server with the desired IP address. And this IP will always be assigned to the server.
  • You can remove the DHCP address from the server settings and set statics, but this is not the most convenient option.
whether it is necessary to raise dhcp on the server if the dhcp of the router is already distributing ip?
Think for yourself whichever is more convenient for you.
There should be one DHCP on the network - if it is more convenient for you to have DHCP on the router, then leave it on it, if it is more convenient for it to be on the server, disable it on the router and raise it on the server.

1. change the address range for DHCP (say, do from 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.254), give the server an address from the freed range (for example, 192.168.0.2).
2. no. fight =)

If the network does not exceed ten computers, then you can leave DHCP on the router. Set the range only starting from IP 10 on the subnet, and give the server a static ip, for example, 5.
DHCP network range 192.168.1.10-192.168.1.254
Server ip 192.168.1.5
If there are more than 10 computers on the network, it is better to turn off DHCP on the router and raise it on a server. It will be more convenient for you to steer them.
If you leave both DHCP, then, in theory, DHCP on the Windows server will constantly complain in the logs that it sees another unauthorized DCHP server that does not allow it to exist peacefully.
As you know, two leaders are closely on one ball, and one constantly rolls on the other)))
