Flash drive problem

Good afternoon, I returned to my old job where I was absent for a year and flash drives refuse to work on two computers. With yusb ports everything is fine, the printer, mouse and scanner work fine. But as you stick any flash drive, terrible brakes begin, or nothing happens at all. On one of the computers, the ussb ports on the face of the system unit were disabled, after connecting the ports they read flash drives perfectly, but those on the back side still refuse to work ... Which way to dig? There are no viruses, I rearranged the driver for yusb. On one W7 on another XP

Is it really a flash drive? Or usb-hdd what?
You can look in the device manager, on usb-BUS. Check the power on the ports, Look at the USB version (1.0, 2.0 ...)

usb flash drive, if there was no power, then usb devices would not work. usb 2… until I left a year ago everything worked…
PS I rearranged the OS on one computer, installed SUSE, all the ports started working… I can’t rearrange on the second one because of the large amount of necessary information, you can only backup to a USB flash drive

@drsmoll

look in the registry for the value of the HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\USBSTOR\Start parameter, if 4 then it will not work (starting the driver: 4-disable, 3-manual, 2-auto, 1-system, 0-boot)
