Files recorded on another computer are not visible on the HDD, what could be the problem?

I ran into a very strange problem. The other day it became necessary to go to my parents for a couple of days, and in order not to waste time, I decided to take my hard drive with an unfinished project and work a little on the spot, and here and there there is wine10. It seems that nothing foreshadowed trouble, everything was saved and opened remarkably, I put some missing software on my own screw because there was not enough space on my native file, I saved several versions of the working file at different stages of readiness (I work with 3D, so the files are very weighty, about 200-250mb each) and downloaded some textures and models. Today I returned home and found my screw in the same state as it was before departure, even the same amount of free space, I remember exactly that it was exactly 25.1 GB. Accordingly, nothing has been preserved and all my labors have gone to dust ... It seems that Windows does not remember new files and does not want to see them, since everything else is in place. I decided to check the disk for errors using built-in tools, apparently it was not worth it ..)) after the "fix" another file disappeared that I created before leaving, but edited and saved it on another computer, and which opened normally before checking. The curtain. Parents have the last autobackups, so not everything is so terrible, but a lot of textures and some models will have to be searched and downloaded again, which is not good at all. Is there any good software that, when recovering, can search for information by folders, and not by file name? And what was it all about, and most importantly, how to avoid such problems in the future? Now, apparently, during such moves, each time you will have to copy important information to the cloud for every fireman) since everything else is in place. You probably burned to another disc.

Thank you. Very funny joke.

Connected via USB? Before shutting down (both at home and with parents) did they warn Windows about their intentions? If you did not give a preliminary shutdown command, then directory changes might not be written to disk.

Starting from Windows 8, if the computer did not turn off, but went into sleep or hibernation, the system does not write the changed data to the screw.
