Facebook wants to give access to "study groups" in Russia

For students who have mail in the .edu zone, Facebook has already launched a service that facilitates student interaction during the learning process. Each school has its own study groups where students can upload files, share news and just chat. At the same time, being on the main Facebook page of an educational institution, you can see a list of all its educational groups (for this you need to join the group of the educational institution).
Now Facebook is actively contacting representatives of Russian universities with the offer of such a service for them. To begin with, they want to create a test group of representatives from different universities to test the service in our conditions.
Do you think this service will be as popular in the Russian student community?

As far as I know, Russian students are mostly not on Facebook.

For 4 years now, our group has been using (sorry for the tautology) the Vkontakte group. Ability to upload pictures, documents, audio, video, chat in topics, etc. is present. Post news that people see in their feed, too. Question: what is the point of transferring a group to facebook?

The main student audience of Moscow and St. Petersburg, of course, is Vkontakte. It is understandable why - from here the contact went. I remember it from 2006, when there were 3 thousand (!) registered users, I myself actively participated in its promotion in our university. In the regions (I judge by acquaintances), by the way, classmates are popular.
Another thing is that Facebook is actively growing in Russia. On large sites, their comments are worth it, there are much more advertisements for groups on TV and radio. If the contact started "from below", then Facebook goes "from above".
The strategy is correct, if the interface were more convenient, then everything is possible.
