Error when updating to 4.1.1
Yesterday the coveted popup came with Android update to 4.1.1 on my Nexus S (I9023). After the reboot, it starts to install and after a couple of minutes a “dead” robot with a red warning label is displayed on the screen. After a few minutes, the phone reboots and starts normally, though with the old firmware 4.0.4. I actually have stock.
What can you advise in this case?
If rutting, then which tool to choose, is it possible without a wipe, if not, then how to make a backup?
Are there any pitfalls with hanging with ClockworkMod?
PS. Error updating from recovery:
E: failed to verify whole-file signature

For backup I recommend Titanium Backup.
CWM will not change the kernel. In any case, such functionality is unknown to me.
There are no options with firmware through a computer?
I had the same problem on my Galaxy Nexus. Moreover, at the bottom of the screen there is a red bar and buttons (as it turned out later, these are elements of the ClockworkMod interface). I downloaded the firmware and successfully flashed it from the rekoveri.
The update came to me a day later than you and everything fell into place with a bang. It can be assumed that the update error has been fixed, and you may need to try again.
Z.Y. I expected something more from the voice assistant.
By the way, now I can not download or update any application from the market, writes errors.
In general, I made a wipe, it wiped the SD card for some reason. I put the klokvokrmod rekoveri via usb, unlocked the bootloader, rutted, put the stock firmware 4.1.1 flashed under CWM, rutted. I reinstall the software. Feels like it works faster. Thanks to all )
