Domain registration on namecheap

When registering a domain on namecheap, the form requires you to specify your first name, last name, address (billing adress), postal address.
Do I need to use my real first and last name?
Do I need to provide a real address?

In my experience, they don't check the data. however, with invalid data, you can easily lose the domain, as you will not be able to verify your identity.
in addition, the namechip has a WhoisGuard service (the namechip itself will know your data, but it will not tell them to any service)
