Does Zabbix server encrypt connections to Zabbix agent?

Zabbix server connects to Zabbix agent (passive).
In this scenario, does the server encrypt its traffic when polling the agent?
The manual says that the agent, if it is active, can encrypt traffic.

By default, traffic between agents and the server is not encrypted.
You can encrypt it either by connecting agents to the server via VPN, or using the built-in encryption capabilities since version 3.0: certificates and pre-shared keys.
Both methods work for active and passive checks.
