I advise Linux Mint, because Ubuntu with its units is just awful to use. Plus, it began to eat a lot of RAM.
Depending on what you need linux for.
If it's just on the desktop, then yes, ubuntu and mint are now the simplest and most working out of the box.
If you administer in the future, I advise you to run through the chain (install and configure in turn) debian -> arch -> gentoo -> slackware -> LFS
